Mission
The mission of the Metro Youth Partnership (MYP) is to mobilize the community to provide developmental assets for every youth in our area.
Goals
In the Spring of 2009, Metro Youth Partnership drew together its board of directors to help chart a solid course forward for the organization. We came up with 3 big goals (and a number of smaller ones) that can be summed in these 3 Es:

Our goal is community change, plain and simple; transforming Moorhead, Fargo, and West Fargo into the best place on the planet to be a kid. How do we do that? Click on the 3 Es above and find out...
History
The Moorhead Healthy Community Initiative (MHCI) was founded in 1995, by a group of Moorhead citizens concerned about the well-being of its children and youth. This group formed the organization with a unique philosophy on youth development: Search Institute’s Healthy Community/Healthy Youth based upon the 40 Developmental Asset model.
These developmental assets are positive qualities, attributes, or building blocks in youth development. Through research, Search Institute has found that the more developmental assets a child or youth has, the less likely they will be to participate in risky behaviors (i.e. alcohol use, early sexual expression, and other risk-taking behaviors) and the more likely they will engage in positive behaviors (i.e. succeed in school, maintain good health, assume leadership roles). Armed with this philosophy, MHCI began to raise awareness and support of Moorhead youth by approaching youth development from an asset rather than deficit model.
Therefore, all of our activities are designed to expose youth to more developmental assets, to educate people of all ages on the importance of community, and to work to change systems to promote the positive development of youth.
In November, 2006, MHCI was part of a panel presentation on community based solutions at the third annual George Sinner Symposium on Public Policy. Out of that presentation, a steering committee composed of leaders from Moorhead, Fargo, and West Fargo was formed to examine the possibility of a metro-wide healthy community movement.
In May of 2007, Search Institute’s student profile survey was administered to 17,000 students grades four through twelve, in all public and private schools in the metro area. The results of the survey were released to the public in a community wide event, “Join the Wave for Metro Youth,” held September 25, 2007. A new organization, Metro Youth Partnership (MYP), has been formed with a new expanded board representing the larger community being elected in January of 2008. We move forward, now, committed to creating the best place on the planet to be a kid.
